Team DC is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established to educate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community on the benefits of individual and team sports participation. Team DC works within the broader community to dispel discrimination against LGBTQ people participating in sports; awards scholarships to LGBTQ student-athletes; provides a network of sporting outlets for the LGBTQ community of the Washington Metropolitan area; and promotes participation in local, regional, national, and international amateur sports competitions. Team DC encourages and supports involvement in team and individual sports within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) and broader community in the Washington Metropolitan Area. To meet this objective, Team DC strives to promote excellence, integrity, and good sporting conduct in individual and team sports. Team DC serves as a clearinghouse for information about the various sports teams, clubs, and events in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. It is a volunteer-based organization that also provides information and support to both individuals and sport clubs active in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Team DC was established in 1990 and formally incorporated in 2003. Team DC is a membership organization with an Executive Council and a Sports Council representing all affiliated sports teams and groups.
