PRIDE MONTH IS HERE
Team DC family,
Happy Pride Month!
As we move into one of the biggest months of the year for LGBTQ+ community, celebration, and visibility in Washington, DC, Team DC is excited to keep showing up with our teams, leagues, athletes, and friends across the region.
Tomorrow, Saturday, June 6, we invite you to join us at the Stonewall Sports Pride Kick-off at Stead Park. Team DC will be there alongside the Dupont Social Club and our very own Cheer DC as we help celebrate Pride, community, and the incredible energy of LGBTQ+ sports in DC. Come out, connect with friends, cheer on our community, and help us kick off Pride weekend the Team DC way.
And the Team DC calendar is just getting started.
On Wednesday, June 18, we hope you will join us at F1 Arcade for our Gay Games Send-off and All Sports Mixer. As members of our DC-area delegation prepare to represent our community at the Gay Games in Valencia, this will be a chance to celebrate them, connect across teams and leagues, and bring together the broader Team DC family for a fun night of games, community, and Pride.
Whether you are headed to Valencia, part of a Team DC league, new to LGBTQ+ sports, or just looking for a great Pride Month gathering, we would love to see you there.
We are also looking ahead to more Night OUT events this summer and fall, including:
Night OUT at the Nationals — June 24 at Nationals Park
Washington Spirit Night OUT — August 23 at Audi Field
Mystics Night OUT — September 24
Washington Commanders Night OUT — Date TBD
For Nationals and Spirit, we are looking forward to keeping the fun going with pre- and post-game gatherings at Dacha Navy Yard. For Spirit Night OUT, we will also gather at the Heineken Rooftop during the match.
Thank you, as always, for being part of this community. Rally your teammates, come celebrate Pride with us tomorrow, join us June 18 at F1 Arcade, grab your Nats tickets, and get ready for a summer full of Pride, sports, and Team DC spirit.
In solidarity and Pride,
Miguel A. Ayala
President, Team DC

Ray Franks Embarks on Second Trans America Bike Ride to Support LGBTQ Youth
Community Meet-and-Greet Scheduled June 12 in Washington, DC Area
LGBTQ advocate and ally Ray Franks has embarked on his second Trans America bike ride, a cross-country journey aimed at raising both funds and awareness for LGBTQ youth. Franks departed from the Florida Keys on May 22 and will arrive in Maine on June 24, cycling thousands of miles in support of two leading nonprofits: Lambda Legal and The Trevor Project.
Through this journey, Franks hopes to spotlight the challenges faced by LGBTQ young people while uplifting the critical work being done by these organizations. His mission is deeply personal.
A father of three — one cisgender, one transgender, and one nonbinary — Franks has witnessed firsthand the unique experiences and hurdles faced by gender-diverse youth.
“While all three had challenges and triumphs, watching the extra struggles of being gender non-conforming has been eye-opening for me,” said Franks. “While, at times, I struggled with how to support them, I never struggled with loving them and wanting them to be happy.”
Franks describes the ride as an opportunity “to connect with communities across the country and to draw attention to the important work that these two non-profits are doing,” according to a post on his website.
As part of his journey, Franks will ride through the Washington, DC area on June 12, where the community is invited to meet him in person at a special fundraising event. Freddie’s Beach Bar will host a meet-and-greet from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, offering supporters a chance to celebrate the ride, connect with Franks, and contribute to Lambda Legal and The Trevor Project.
The event aims to bring together community members, advocates, and allies in support of LGBTQ youth and to further amplify the message of inclusion, visibility, and support.
