Sportsgram 2025 Vol 7

What a night

In partnership with

Scholars Clockwise from upper left: Jay Young, Nwaamaka Agwu, Shanti Osborne, Nadia Lytle, Emelia Benitez-Pergola, Nat Alatis, Rin Kelley, Katelynne Robertson not pictured James Hughes

Our 17th annual Night of Champions was an inspiring evening. We inducted a new class of Team DC Scholars (Pictured Above) and honored champions from our community. I mentioned previously that our scholars this year are world class. This years scholars had an average GPA of 4.38 and are multi sport athletes. Finally being able to meet these young people in person was an incredible treat. Our partners at metro weekly sat down interviewed our scholars for a cover story in last weeks issue, it’s clear that these students are destined for greatness. Read the article here

This is the second year in a row that we have had 9 scholars. While that in and of itself is an accomplishment, it is not what is most newsworthy. Since 2008 our scholarship program has awarded 113 scholarships, all funded with contributions from our community members and our member organizations. That is newsworthy. Our mission to build community through sport shines through our members and their dedication to supporting future LGBTQ+ Leaders. This years scholarship sponsors: Nicholas Collins Virginia Lions Club, Rogue League Sports, DC Frontrunners Pride Run Foundation, Team DC, Stonewall Billiards, Stonewall Dodgeball, and Centaurs Motorcycle Club of Virginia. We are ever thankful for their generosity. Our programming and outreach is funded by individual contributions and silent auction items donated by local businesses. Support the businesses that support your community. If you didn’t get a chance to come to our gala, please consider contributing to our operating fund today. All donations are tax deductible and will make a valuable impact on the LGBTQ+ leaders of tomorrow.

We honored our Team DC Trailblazer Dfox, MVP awardee Esteban Dilloway aka “Elle Camino", educator Dr Demarco Brooks for the Clark Ray Horizon Award Winner, Bernard Jude Delia Community Leadership Award presented to Joseph Gawler’s Son , and Washington Nationals Baseball team winning the platinum Allstar award for 20 years of co-hosting Pride Night OUT.

We get it. Wrestling is a tough sport to get into, especially as an adult. But that's why we started District Wrestling — to give adults with little to no experience a chance to learn, practice, improve and compete. Our weekly practices are perfect for new wrestlers, and we make sure to provide a balanced workout to all who show up. Our next season starts on Monday April 21st, but drop-ins are welcome every week! Visit districtwrestling.com/join to get started.

Play Ball! The Eastern Women's Baseball Conference is looking for interested players. Join one of our four teams in the DMV. Register at easternwomensbaseball.org or contact us at [email protected]./
